T-Maxx Heads to New Orleans for Superdome Monster Jam
NEW ORLEANS, LA (January 12) Monster Jam fans and competitors beware! John Seasock and the Traxxas T-Maxx are pumped up and ready to dominate Saturday’s United States Hot Rod Association Monster Jam in the Louisiana Superdome.
I’m from Pennsylvania, but when I get interviewed Saturday in the Louisiana Superdome everybody’s going to know we also have a shop in New Orleans,” Seasock said Wednesday. “I’m proud to represent New Orleans and Pennsylvania, too. We’ve been here in our New Orleans shop since Sunday getting the monster truck ready for this weekend’s race. We’re checking the nuts and bolts, the fluids and everything else on the T-Maxx. We’re doing everything we can to make sure the T-Maxx is 110% so we can perform well in New Orleans.
“The Superdome is unbelievable. It’s huge and they put on a gigantic show for the sellout crowd. Every stadium, arena and dome we visit has its distinguishing characteristics that make it stand out from the others. The Superdome is huge and, with Bourbon Street right down the road, the atmosphere of the event is really special.”
The Superdome’s massive floor space, the rowdy crowd and the extraordinary atmosphere brings out the best in Seasock.
“The last time we were here, I went out and lit the world on fire,” Seasock said. “We laid down some awesome passes. I tore the tailgate bedsides off while pulling a wheelie during my first pass and I didn’t even know it. I was winning the freestyle competition with two trucks remaining. Then Maximum Destruction® went out and pulled off what we call a “yard dog” off the top of the school bus. He ended up tying me. We were waiting there to see who would win and Dennis Anderson pulled off a spectacular jump in Grave Digger®. He ended up rolling over. That was a pretty awesome night. The Superdome has been pretty good to us.”
There will be plenty of competition for the T-Maxx as Seasock looks to improve on the semifinal run he recorded at Reliant Stadium in Houston last weekend. Tom Meents will be racing around the Superdome in Maximum Destruction, along with Dennis Anderson in Grave Digger, Madusa®, Superman®, Brutus®, Hot Wheels®, Gunslinger®, Obsession®, Reptoid®, Avenger and Annihilator®.
“There aren’t any slouches racing monster trucks around the country, but this weekend’s show could be a World Finals event,” Seasock said. “Every round will be like a final round anywhere else in the country. The competition is so tough now. It comes down to whoever makes the least number of mistakes. All the trucks are so competitive and the drivers are so talented. You never know what’s going to happen.”
Seasock says the Louisiana Superdome Monster Jam will feature the Minneapolis style of monster truck racing. It’s similar to Chicago style, the format the trucks ran in Houston’s Reliant Stadium last weekend. The trucks start in the middle of the arena and are facing the opposite direction. They start with a tight turn, then head into a big oval. Running different track configurations at each venue throws a different element into each Monster Jam.
“We’re going to do our best to put that big Traxxas truck in the finals,” Seasock said. “We were pretty happy to put the T-Maxx in the semifinals in our first show last weekend in Houston. We want to knock these guys off and get into the finals. We’re going to take it one round at a time and give it 110%. If anybody beats us, it’s not going to be from a lack of trying. We’re going to stay focused and do our best in the races. After the races, we’re going to tighten the bolts in the T-Maxx and try to win the freestyle competition. The louder and crazier the fans get, the crazier we’re going to get. Considering it’s the Superdome, I’m sure there will be plenty of huge jumps, some big pyramids and we’re going to hit everything they put out there for us. We’re not going to hold anything back.”
