T-Maxx Leaves for London Monster Jam®!

ELIZIBETH CITY, NORTH CAROLINA (March 25, 2006) – The Traxxas T-Maxx team is taking a break from racing after an incredible past few months. Just because the Traxxas T-Maxx isn’t racing does not mean that the truck is sitting idle. In fact the truck is undergoing major changes to make it bigger, stronger and faster!

Following the Jacksonville, Florida event, T-Maxx driver, Carl Van Horn, and the team went to work immediately. The T-Maxx team cut and shaved down the mammoth monster truck tires, saving critical weight. Over 80 hours of hard work went into cutting the 66” tires to make the truck lighter, faster and even more competitive.

To the right you see what an uncut, un-buffed, full cleat tire looks like.

It is an example of a full cleat Firestone monster truck tire.  These massive tires were originally designed to run on agricultural spreaders, and each mounted tire including the wheel weighs approximately 800 pounds. These tires are capable of carrying 10,000 pounds, which is about the same weight as the full-size Traxxas T-Maxx.

To the left you see the tire for T-Maxx after it was buffed down.

After the tire is shipped out and returned back to the shop, it is about 150 pounds lighter than a full cleat tire. This takes approximately 2 weeks to complete.

After some hard work and time consuming cutting, the final result looks like the pictures below.

Some of the benefits of having lighter tires include better handling, reduced overall weight, less rotating mass, and stress relief on the driveline. These weight saving benefits result in a faster and more competitive truck. The T-Maxx team is working on a custom design monster truck tire that is designed strictly for racing, and it should be out within the year.

These are just a few of the major improvements and modifications that the Traxxas T-Maxx team is implementing to keep the T-Maxx in optimum car-crushing form. Team T-Maxx’s goal is to put the life-sized replica of the radio control Traxxas T-Maxx into the winner’s circle as often as possible. The next time the T-Maxx hits the track, watch out! It’s gonna be wild!

The Traxxas T-Maxx will be in action this weekend (April 1-2) in London, Ontario, at the Monster Jam®.
