ATLANTA, GEORGIA (April 22, 2006) – The Traxxas
T-Maxx® monster truck rolled into Dixie Speedway in Atlanta, Georgia, for the Checkered Flag Productions Monster Truck Spring Nationals. The stage was set on the Dixie dirt track as an incredibly strong field of monster trucks prepared to battle it out. The heavy-weight field included Grave Digger®, Maximum Destruction®, Bigfoot®, Sudden Impact®, Predator®, Prowler®, and Demon®.
The weekend started for the Traxxas T-Maxx team when driver, Carl Van Horn, took to the skies in the qualifying portion of racing. T-Maxx had a blistering fast qualifying time. It was so fast that it secured the second fastest qualifying position.
In the first round, complications plagued the T-Maxx, hindering its racing ability. This allowed Predator to take the win over T-Maxx in round one.
The disappointing loss in round one forced the Traxxas T-Maxx team to the sidelines until the freestyle portion of the show. The monsters took to the dirt to freestyle in pairs. In the first pairing, T-Maxx and Sudden Impact moved onto the track, thrilling the fans. Van Horn’s run in T-Maxx was filled with incredible wheelies, donuts, and even great saves on the slick dirt track. The run by T-Maxx was a bench mark for the final 4 trucks to top, but in the end, it was Maximum Destruction taking the freestyle win.
Saturday night’s show proved better for the Traxxas T-Maxx team, as the T-Maxx and Carl Van Horn put together a string of wins in a march to the final round. In the finals T-Maxx left it all on the track, but fell shy of the victory as Tom Meents in Maximum Destruction crossed the finish line mere inches ahead of T-Maxx.
Freestyle was next on the agenda. Van Horn waited anxiously in the T-Maxx and watched the first field of trucks go out and put on great freestyles. Finally, it was time for the Traxxas T-Maxx to perform on the tacky Georgia clay. Van Horn piloted T-Maxx into several great wheelies, long jumps, and donuts. Unfortunately, while wrapping up the fantastic freestyle run, the right rear spindle bolts broke after the T-Maxx launched sky-high into the air. The entire right rear wheel came rolling to a stop as the Dixie Speedway crowd erupted, cheering for the Traxxas T-Maxx.
Although T-Maxx didn’t take home gold, the Traxxas T-Maxx undoubtedly thrilled the fans with excellent race passes and wild freestyle action.
See the Traxxas T-Maxx next weekend (April 28-30) at the Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton, New Jersey, as it competes in the Checkered Flag Productions Monster Truck Winter Nationals.
