GAFFNEY, SOUTH CAROLINA (June 3, 2006) – The Southern Monster Truck Showdown® series rolled into Gaffney, South Carolina, to thrill monster truck enthusiasts of all ages. The Traxxas® T-Maxx™ team was on hand to give the monster truck fans what they wanted, big air, speed, and action! The T-Maxx team had its work cut out for them, as a hard charging field of trucks, including Gun Slinger, Clydesdale, Wild Hair, and Monkey’n Around, challenged T-Maxx for the number one spot in the wheelie contest, racing, and, of course, freestyle!
The weekend started off on Friday night with the T-Maxx having a phenomenal long-distance wheelie in the wheelie contest. In racing the Traxxas T-Maxx team began a march to the finals after defeating their opponents in both the first and second round pairings. In the final round T-Maxx took the win in a classic showdown with Gun Slinger. Just after the final round, a storm rolled in and the Southern Monster Truck Showdown officials were forced to cancel the remainder of the show due to the weather.
On Saturday the Traxxas T-Maxx was ready to pick up right where the team left off on Friday and continue its winning ways. Van Horn launched into a massive vertical wheelie only to experience problems on the landing. Upon touchdown T-Maxx took an awkward leap, breaking the front driveshaft. With a broken front driveshaft T-Maxx was unable to advance during the racing stage of the evening. In freestyle, T-Maxx took to the Gaffney track against the 4WD competition with only rear wheel drive! Fans were thrilled by an amazing display of donuts, wheelies, and monster style air! The Traxxas T-Maxx and Carl Van Horn walked away the freestyle winner.
