T-Maxx ‘Goes Big’ in Houston!

See the Houston Gallery!

HOUSTON, TEXAS (January 6, 2007) – A brand-new, state-of-the-art Traxxas T-Maxx rolled out of the trailer and onto the track on Saturday for the USHRA Monster Jam in Houston’s Reliant Stadium. In what appeared to be a mini-World Finals, T-Maxx faced-off against fifteen of the toughest names in the monster truck industry; including Grave Digger, Maximum Destruction, Avenger, Bounty Hunter, Iron Outlaw, King Krunch, Escalade, Blue Thunder, Monster Mutt, and others. The sold-out crowd saw T-Maxx driven by defending Reliant Stadium racing champion, Carl Van Horn, take an instant liking to the unique ‘Houston style’ race course. The new ‘Houston style’ course started the trucks launching off large tabletops into a sharp 180 degree turn. After the first 180 degree turn there was a long straightaway, followed by some serious braking before another 180 degree turn. Lastly there was a jump over a pile of cars followed by the finish line.

T-Maxx qualified in the top half of the pack in preparation for some intense racing. In the first round of racing T-Maxx lined up against one of the toughest racers on the tour, Jimmy Creten in Bounty Hunter. Van Horn demonstrated the brute power of the Traxxas T-Maxx and roared off of the tabletop and into the first corner. The new engine unleashed plenty of power as T-Maxx ripped down the straightaway and throttled into the final turn. Bounty Hunter was keeping the race close until T-Maxx soared over the final set of crush cars earning a second round berth. Moving into round 2, T-Maxx was paired against the Iron Outlaw, teammate to Bounty Hunter. The talent of both drivers and equally powerful trucks provided for another close race. As both trucks crossed the finish line, Iron Outlaw, had the lead by a mere four feet. It was one of the closest races of the evening, and it provided a good glimpse of the excitement that was in store for freestyle.

Freestyle was up next, and Van Horn waited patiently in the truck watching trucks crack-off good runs early in the program. The USHRA Track Officials signaled T-Maxx out onto the track and then the life-size replica of America’s #1 selling radio controlled truck moved out onto the tacky Houston track. T-Maxx’s engine roared as the truck unleashed a fury of sick air, wheelies, and donuts prior to launching off of the tabletop landing ramp. While descending the rear tires caught on the lip of the tabletop, sending the back of the truck into the air in an inverted front-tire wheelie. Carl quickly got on the gas to get the rear end back on the ground before hammering on the brakes. With the rotors glowing bright orange T-Maxx slowed down before it hit the Stadium wall. When Van Horn emerged the Houston fans roared in appreciation of the wild freestyle!
