Carl Van Horn is proud to represent Traxxas and to drive the legendary T-Maxx. Carl is the perfect fit to handle the responsibility that comes with driving T-Maxx. In addition to being one of the top pro monster truck drivers in the world, he's a huge fan of R/C. His favorite truck, of course, is the T-Maxx, and he couldn’t be more excited to drive the full-size T-Maxx in competition.
Before becoming involved with monster trucks, Carl worked as a mechanic in his dad’s shop, where he learned all about automotive and truck repair and refined his mechanical skills. He then acquired his CDL and began driving 18-wheelers, which he still does when he is not competing in monster truck events.
Carl began his career in monster trucks as a crew member for the Blue Thunder monster truck racing team. He later became crew chief for the team and had his first chance to drive a monster truck when they needed to test a new shock setup. From that point on, Carl knew he wanted to be a full-time monster truck driver. Other drivers in the sport called him a natural right from the start, and Carl was given a chance to drive the Marvel Comics Spider-Man monster truck. In his rookie season, Carl won the “Upset of the Year” award by winning the first televised event in which he ever competed. Since that time, Carl piloted several different monster trucks. He has competed in the World Finals three times and was the 2005 WMTRL World Champion.
Spending time with his family is Carl’s favorite thing to do in his spare time. He also enjoys playing the guitar. In addition, he now has a new hobby running his T-Maxx radio controlled monster truck.
Carl is energized to be part of the Traxxas T-Maxx Monster Truck Race Team, and with such great support from Traxxas and the T-Maxx crew, he looks forward to enjoying great success as an integral part of the Traxxas T-Maxx Team. He is grateful for the support of Traxxas, and especially the many fans that enable him to do what he loves, driving a monster truck.
Carl’s hometown is Elizabeth City, NC, where he resides with his wife Shelley and their four children Chelsea, Jessica, Austin, Alyssa.
